About Kara
Serving military-connected students in higher education for over 20 years, Kara Fields has created veteran and military services at two colleges. Currently, she is the Director of Veteran & Military Services at Macomb Community College, where she leads the college initiative to serve and support over 1,500 military-connected students. To ensure this student population has the resources needed, Kara is very involved in establishing and maintaining community resource networks. She co-chairs the Motor City Veterans Community Action Team (serving Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties) and is the Education Chair for the Macomb Veteran Action Collaborative. Kara sits on the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency’s Community Outreach and Regional Engagement (CORE) committee and was the Michigan’s 2023 CORE Award recipient in 2023.
Additionally, Kara earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Walsh College, Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Oakland University and Associate of Arts from Macomb Community College. She enjoys using her understanding of complex systems like VA, DoD, DHS, higher education and education benefits to help veterans, service members and their family members succeed. Personally, you can find Kara traveling by boat within the Great Lakes, finding Petoskey stones, and working with her Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.
